Whatlington

Village Fête: For various reasons beyond our control it has proved quite difficult to find a suitable date for the Fête this year. The date recently announced (September 6th) was, faute de mieux, a Sunday: but this also has its drawbacks, and so it has now been decided to hold the Fête on Saturday, August 29th. Further details will follow nearer the event.

Meanwhile, as Wimbledon gets under way, don’t forget to sign up for our own tennis tournament and barbecue on Saturday, August 8th! Please ring Sally Henderson on 01424 775130 to book a place.

Church News: Jeffrey Bridges writes: The service next Sunday will be at 09.30am.

It is sad to have to report that Gordon Labbett, long time member of Whatlington church and former warden for many years, has passed away. The funeral will be at Whatlington church at 2pm on Tuesday 7th July.

Village Hall: Amid some hilarity, most of the Committee met Steve Turner, Editor of the Whatlington News, at the Hall on Saturday morning for some photographs of Committee members inspecting the redecorated and rejuvenated Hall, and demonstrating the hard work that went into this enterprise - although it must be said that this work was not entirely their own . . . These can be seen in next month’s issue of the News.
