From the Parish Council: Last week’s Parish Council meeting, held on January 15th, took place on a cold and wet evening, although luckily the rain had eased allowing the overflowing river water to subside enough for the car park to be used. We were fortunate that our PCSO Demi, who should have been on holiday, changed the day so he could attend the meeting and give his report. This included the pleasant news that there were no serious crimes to report for the parish. He had, however, been busy with all the recent flooding and had been involved in closing roads. He is now responsible for Westfield and Broad Oak Brede so is now covering a larger area but will continue to do his best for the parishes. Age Concern had forwarded details about their ‘Home from Hospital Service’ with the contact and information telephone no. 01424 440333. Camera work on the spring has been delayed until we have drier weather. Several council policies were reviewed and agreed. The 2015-16 Precept of £7,361.20, a rise of 2% was also agreed. The next meeting will be the Annual Parish Assembly at 7.00pm on the 19th March followed by the Parish Council meeting, hence the earlier start time. A speaker is being arranged.

The Good Companions: Hilda Aplin writes; It is very unusual for The Good Companions to meet in January but we did meet for a meal on 14th January. When we met for our Christmas luncheon at The White Hart, Netherfield, which was really nice, the staff being very attentive, we decided that as January is a very quiet month and not many of our members actually venture out, we would arrange a meal. We met up at The Queen’s Head in Sedlescombe where we enjoyed a delicious meal, warming ourselves by a log fire. We have agreed to meet up at The Queen’s Head again on Wednesday February 25th when we will again enjoy their hospitality. New members are always welcome. If you wish to join us in February or at any other time please telephone Hilda on 01634 932135. I will be sending out the menu for the meal in February for members to choose what they would like to eat. May I take this opportunity of wishing all my friends in Whatlington & Battle, Peace, Happiness & Good Health for 2015.
