Alex Goodman, The Royal Oak

Tonight (Friday 27th) is Irish Music Night at The Royal Oak, when Irish Music loving musicians join together for a jamming style session of traditional tunes around the bar. It’s a unique and very popular night, so if you haven’t experienced it yet, do come along from 8pm.

The following Friday (4th October) is Film Club night at The Royal Oak when we will be showing the highly acclaimed and award winning French film “Amelie” from 8pm. This is a romantic comedy set in Montmartre and is a whimsical depiction of contemporary Parisian life, following the story of a shy waitress, played by Audrey Tautou. Last week The Good Companions enjoyed a visit to Herstmonceux Castle Gardens. The weather stayed fine for the afternoon visit but it was evident that the rain and winds of the last few days had had an effect on the flower beds, although of course, it must be borne in mind that we are now approaching Autumn!

After wandering around the many different gardens, including the “fairy” garden, which I enjoyed the most, the group finished off the afternoon by enjoying a cream ea in the cafe.

It is hoped that we will return again, this time to visit the castle with is used as a university now.
