News from Alex at The Royal Oak:

The next Irish Music Night at the Royal Oak is in a week’s time, so clear your diary on the evening of Friday 30th November when a collection of local talented musicians will be “jamming” away playing traditional Irish tunes from 8.30pm. This is always a busy night, so if you would like to also book a table to eat, please call 01424 870492.

The Royal Oak Readers Book Club will meet at 7.30pm on Tuesday 27th November to see what we thought of “Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady” by Florence King. The Book Club is a friendly group that meets about every six weeks for a drink or coffee for an informal chat about the book, if you are interested in joining, please give me a ring on 01424 870492.

The next Film Club gathering will be on Friday 7th December at 8pm, when we will be starting to get into the Christmas spirit by watching the classic feel-good film “Love Actually”. Please direct Film Club enquiries to [email protected].

By popular demand, we will be holding a Port and cheese tasting evening on Saturday 8th December at 9pm. I think this may be very well supported, so if you would like to come along, please reserve a ticket for £5 so that I know how much Port to order – we don’t want to run out on the night!!

The Village Hall Committee will be holding the Whatlington Christmas Market on Saturday 8th December from 11am until 3pm. There will be mulled wine, mince pies, local produce, cakes and gifts plus a Lucky Dip for children. If you are interested in having a stall, or would like to help out on the day, please contact Angie on 01424 870087. We hope this will be an enjoyable community-led day when you can socialise with your neighbours and maybe do a bit of Christmas Shopping whilst raising some funds for the upkeep of the hall. If you are interested in hiring the hall for a meeting, party or get-together, contact Ken on 01424 772997.
