Saturday October 13 the parish church will be holding its second courtyard sale at the rectory from 10am until 12noon.

St Mary Magdalene Parish Church service on Sunday 14th October will be Family Service at 10.30am.All welcome.

The Harvest Festival supper took place in the Village Hall last Sunday 7th October. Thanks must go to Valerie for the excellent food and service that was given to all following the tradional harvest service and hyms.I think everyone enjoyed the meal and of course all the congregation is looking forward to next years Harvest Festival service as planned back in the church once the renovation is complete following the fire damage.

Harvest festival assembly at Mountfield & Whatlington Primary School will be at 9.10am on Friday 19th October.The school will be closed for an staff inset day on Friday 26th October then closed for half term the whole of the following week with back to school day being Monday 5th November.

The Good Companions meet this Wednesday at Whatlington Village Hall, 2pm. Roger Fisher has kindly offered to talk on the “The History and Art of Cartophily” , which I am sure we will all find very interesting. You do not have to be a member of the group to join us on this ocassion , this will be an “open” meeting, as I am know Roger would appreciate a good audience ! There will be a raffle and light refreshments. £1.00 entry to cover hall costs.

News from Alex at The Royal Oak:

A close fought Shove Ha’penny match took place during games night at The Royal Oak last Wednesday. Through the winter we’ll be playing all the traditional pub games on a Wednesday night. Come and join us for some good old fashioned banter and rivalry coupled with a pint beside the log fire at your local pub!

Quiz night is every Thursday at The Royal Oak from 8pm. Just £1 per person entry for teams of up to six people. With lots of different rounds to suit everyone and free lollipops!

A scary Halloween weekend at The Royal Oak will begin with a Halloween Party at The Royal Oak on Friday 26th October from 8pm with some startling cocktails and costumes, then we will be showing The Woman in Black in The Barn on Saturday 27th from 8pm as part of the Whatlington Film Club itinerary. Please note that the October Irish Music Session has been moved to Friday 2nd November - so put the date in your diary if you’d like to be a part of this uplifting, foot tapping evening of live music.

We still have a few tickets left for the 40s Night in the Village Hall on Friday 19th October from 8pm. Money raised will be put towards much needed funds for maintenance and improvements to the hall. Tickets are just £10 per person to include a light supper, and don’t forget 40s fancy dress is obligatory! The next Whatlington Village Jumble Sale will take place in the Village Hall from 10am on Saturday 27th October, so dig out any of your unwanted jumble, clothes, bric-a-brac and toys. There are sure to be lots of bargains, so come along on the day to see if there’s anything you fancy.
