A NEW timetable for the Jempsons supermarket bus transporting customers to Jempsons in Peasmarsh started on Monday the 2nd July.The service is for those with no car available or the elderly and for help with people with mobility problems.This service now stops at Whatlington every Monday at 10.51 AM at the Royal Oak public house bus stop and will go through Battle ,Sedlescombe,Staplecross and Beckley arriving at Jempsons Peasmarsh at 11.42 AM.The service will then depart Jempsons supermarket in Peasmarsh at 13.55 AM and return to Whatlington.The bus will stop on request anywhere conveniant and safe to do so.This will be a weekly service every Monday.The timetable can be viewed on the Jempons website www.jempsons.com. There is a nominal fee of £1.00 for this service per customer paid on the return journey.

St Mary Magdalene Parish Church service for Sunday 15th July is Holy Communion at 8.30am in the village hall.Everyone welcome.Also a reminder that the Patronal Festival is coming up on the 21st and 22nd July. On Saturday 21st there will be delicious cream teas in the Village Hall from 2.30 until 4.30. Weather permitting the Patronal service will be in the Churchyard at 5.00pm on Sunday 22nd. Please bring your own chair, however if the weather is bad the service will be in the village Hall. There will be light refreshments afterwards. There will also be a Holy Communion on the Sunday morning at 8.30am that week.

The local school fete took place on Saturday 7th July on what is always a very big event in the school year.Most of the parents attended the fete along with some friends that came along to boost the spending power!

The next Village Hall Jumble Sale is on Saturday August 4th, doors open 10am. If you have any good quality jumble you wish to donate - clothes, toys or bric-a-brac, please drop off at the pub, or call Angie on 01424 870087 who may be able to organise collection. We’re also always grateful for any helpers who might be available the afternoon before or on the day! Three of the best films of the year so far are to be shown over the course of the next few weeks at Whatlington Film Club.Although licensing laws mean film showings must be to club members only, the good news is that anybody can come along on any screening night and sign-up on the spot. For £7.50 per person you can see great films for a whole year including . . .The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, starring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith, which will be shown tonight (Friday July 13).This movie tells the story of a group of British pensioners who decide to leave the UK behind and set up home in less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel, they arrive to find the former palace is not quite what they were expecting. Their lives, also, take unexpected turns.On August 3 there’s a total change of pace, style and colour. The Artist is one of the most-lauded pieces of cinema this year – a black and white silent movie that won the Best Film accolade at both the Oscars and the BAFTAs. It chronicles the effect that the growing popularity of the ‘talkies’ has on swashbuckling silent star George Valentin. He finds inspiration, however, in Peppy Miller, a young dancer who is lighting up the new cinema like no one else. Oh, and The Artist stars Uggie the dog – a mutt so cute that there were petitions for him to win the Best Actor gong at the Oscars. He didn’t, but human co-star Jean Dukardin did.On August 24 another four-legged character takes a leading role in the poignant, moving, tragic and inspiring War Horse.This Steven Spielberg epic follows teenage farmhand Albert, whose horse is sold by his father to the cavalry for service on the front line of World War l. The youngster lies about his age, signs up and begins a quest through the blood and mud of the trenches to find Joey the horse and bring him safely home.All films are shown from 8pm at the Royal Oak. A big thank-you to The New Orleans Rhythmakers who played their hearts out to a packed pub at The Royal Oak last Wednesday evening. The music was excellent and the atmosphere buzzing with people singing and dancing round the bar! If you missed it, don’t worry, the next Traditional Jazz Night will be on Wednesday 1st August so make a note in your diary now!Another “Psychic Nights” date has been arranged for Saturday 4th August at The Royal Oak. This time local master palmist Robin Lown will be joined by popular psychic medium Grant Colyer who will tune in to surrounding energies to provide a very entertaining and insightful evening. This “audience with” style set up worked really well last time and The Barn was packed, so if you don’t want to miss out, please call and reserve your seat.
