Due to a technical error there was no Whatlington Village voice published last week so apologies to all.

Parish Church service (Holy Communion) for Sunday 29th April is 8.30 AM at the village hall. Everyone welcome.

Monday 16th April was back to school day following the Easter break. All the pupils at the school were full of energy. Maybe for those lucky enough I guess this could be from the amount of chocolate eaten over the period!

In the play ground was the newly installed play fort that Mr Hellet the previous Head Teacher had sited at the top end of the play ground as his leaving present to the school.The pupils I am sure were a little worried as

there would be a new Head Teacher to have to get know for the Summer term as the school has an interim Head Teacher for this term.

The Good Companions met on the 18th April at the Village Hall for a social afternoon. They enjoyed the poems which were read out by members and a few cakes and tea ! The next gathering is on the 16th May which is a two course lunch at the Royal Oak. Please let Valerie Bishop have your choice of menu back by 9th May.

If you’re in need of some great live music The Royal Oak is the place to be this week! Today (Fri 27th) is our regular Irish Music Session when over a dozen local musicians join together for a traditional “jamming style” session from 8.30pm. Then on Wednesday (2nd May) The New Orleans Rhythmakers take to “the stage” to perform all your favourite traditional jazz standards from 8pm. Admission to both of these events is FREE, so do come along and support live music at your local pub! For any other details please call 01424 870492.

Last week “The Saints” won the jackpot at the pub quiz by just one point in a closely fought battle, they donated their winnings to St Michael’s Hospice - well done to them! If you think you could field a team of up to six people to come and beat them, then please join us on Thursday evenings from 8pm at The Royal Oak. The quiz aims to be lots of fun and not too tricky, entry is £1 per person and everyone is welcome.

The “Royal Oak Readers” will meet on Tuesday 1st May at 7.30pm at The Royal Oak to discuss “The Sealed Letter” by Emma Donaghue. Everyone is welcome to join our friendly Book Club, if you would like any further information, please call Alex on 01424 870492.

Tickets are now on sale for an evening of Palmistry with local expert Robin Lown. This event will take place in The Barn at The Royal Oak on Saturday 26th May from 8pm. Robin, also a natural psychic, is a highly acclaimed expert in this field having made numerous radio and TV appearances and is hugely entertaining, giving performances up and down the country all the time. Don’t forget that this Monday (30th) there is an open meeting in The Village Hall to discuss the Jubilee Street Party which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 4th June. If you would like to join in or help out please do come along on Monday evening at 7.30pm. This will be a wonderful village event where we can all celebrate together in 50s style over a SPAM sandwich or two!
