Whatlington village voice

This can be sent anytime and I would appreciate any news that can be added into this column to help get the information to the residents of the Parish. Major birthdays or wedding anniversaries are fine - we can all celebrate with you!

Parish Church service (Holy Communion) for Sunday 22nd April is 8.30 AM at the village hall. Everyone welcome.

Monday 16th April was back to school day following the Easter break. All the pupils at the school were full of energy. Maybe for those lucky enough I guess this could be from the amount of chocolate eaten over the period!

In the play ground was the newly installed play fort that Mr Hellet the previous Head Teacher had sited at the top end of the play ground as his leaving present to the school. The pupils I am sure were a little worried as there would be a new Head Teacher to have to get know for the Summer term as the school has an interim Head Teacher for this term.

Local Master Palmist Robin Lown is holding a “psychic night” and evening of palmistry in The Barn at The Royal Oak on Saturday 26th May at 8pm. This will be a fantastic evening of entertainment as Robin is a highly acclaimed expert in this field and has made numerous radio and TV appearances. Tickets are just £10, but numbers are limited, so please contact Alex on 01424 870492 if you are interested - it will be a super and enlightening evening! Pub Quiz night at The Royal Oak will continue every Thursday evening from 8pm. Entry is just £1 per person for teams of up to 6, and the winning team has a chance to win the jackpot. There are free lollipops, spot prizes and lots of fun, so why not put a team together and join us one Thursday evening? The Traditional Irish tunes session is the next live music evening at The Royal Oak. Friday 27th April at 8.30pm will see a host of talented local musicians perform together in a foot-tapping treat of uplifting Celtic tunes!

The Film club will meet on Friday April 20 when we will be showing the new version of Jane Eyre. This 2011 movie of the Charlotte Bronte novel tells the story of the quiet governess who strikes up a friendship with her employer – the dark, abrupt and mysterious Mr Rochester. Mia Wasikowska plays the title role, Michael Fassbender is Rochester and Jamie Bell (star of Billy Elliot is his younger years) and Judi Dench also appear. The film starts at 8pm in The Barn function room at the Royal Oak.

Staplecross & Hollington Art Groups will be holding their annual Art Exhibition at Staplecross Village Hall opening on Friday 20th April 7-9pm, Saturday 21st& Sunday 22nd April 10am – 4pm.For information to Whatlington Parish.
