A new free two day festival celebrating everything cycling will be wheeled out in Hastings and Bexhill next month.

Organised by Hastings Borough Council’s (HBC) Active Hastings team supported by Rother District Council (RDC) the 1066 Cycling Festival takes place June 11-12. Organisers say it will showcase some fantastic cycling events, demonstrations and family fun activities.

On Saturday June 11 the festival opens at the Stade Open Space, Hastings, commencing with a school and family parade at 2pm. Other events include a pro BMX demo by The Source, stunt displays by the 3SIXTY bicycle stunt team, a chance to view Electra bikes and find out why they are so special with Handsome Bicycles and a best decorated bike competition.

Stade events finish at 6pm, continuing in Bottle Alley, Hastings with the Bottle Alley Bike Bomb. Races start at 7pm. Cllr Dawn Poole, HBC’s lead member for leisure says this is set to be a great new festival that will add to our already vibrant calendar of events. “There will be so much to see and do; something for everyone,” she said.

The fun continues on Sunday June 12 at the De La Warr Pavilion 11–3pm. Events include a Coastal Culture Trail ride, picnic and BMX sessions at Bexhill BMX Track. On both days festival visitors will be treated to Rollapaluza where participants can battle it out on bikes over a sprint distance at speeds in excess of 50mph, travel the world during a virtual spin session and make free fruit smoothies with a special smoothie bike supplied by Sustrans.
