When Sir Terry Wogan joined our cabin crew aboard a Concorde

A former concorde cabin service officer has spoken about the time Sir Terry Wogan joined his crew and became a cabin steward aboard a flight, in the wake of the star's death.

Peter Chadwick, 86, of Woodlands Lane, Chichester, was working aboard concords for British Airways when Sir Terry posed as one of his cabin crew for a radio and television feature on March 17, 1982.

Peter said: “BA phoned me to say Terry Wogan would be coming aboard as a supernumary crew member.

“I met him at Heathrow and got him fitted with a uniform and cap, then he had to do an air sea rescue test and then he was shown how to be a concorde steward.

“For his 25-minute radio feature he then worked as a crew member aboard a flight. There were around 57 passengers but a lot of them were Americans so didn’t recognise him.

“I remember asking the cabin girls ‘does anyone speak any languages’ and Terry said ‘I speak Irish, does that count?’ which got a good laugh.

“He was as nice as everyone says he is and was so charming.

“One of the pictures I have is of him pretending to strangle me, he called me bossy boots for the day.”

Sir Terry, who enjoyed a 50-year TV and radio career, died of cancer on Sunday, January 31, aged 77.
