WHOLE AREA 'LEFT OUT' IN HOSPITAL CONSULTATIONS

STEYNING Parish Council has stepped in to arrange a special meeting about proposed changes to hospitals in West Sussex, after the West Sussex Primary Care Trust (PCT) failed to arrange one for the Steyning area.

Residents have been urged to attend the meeting on Thursday this week (July 26) at the Steyning Centre and make their views known to the PCT.

Parish council chairman Jackie Campbell has asked residents to attend and make their views known on the cuts proposed by the Primary Care Trust.

"It is an important issue. We just want to make sure that the accident and emergency department in Worthing stays. Without it, residents from this area will have to travel either to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton or to St Richard's in Chichester," she said.

She added: "We seem to be neglected, north of the Downs. The nearest meeting organised in Horsham District by the PCT was in Pulborough, which would have meant a 25 mile round trip for people from Steyning. It is not just Steyning that is affected, but also Bramber and Beeding."

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert will be at the meeting to support the campaign to save the hospital services.

He said: "I am delighted that the parish council has organised a meeting in Steyning.

"I have already complained to the PCT that they have not organised enough meetings themselves in the towns and villages.

"I very much hope that people will come along."
