The Worthing-based hospice is asking local businesses, schools and individuals to get together with friends or colleagues, dress up in Santa costumes, Christmas jumpers, reindeer antlers or tinsel and hold a festive fundraising event.

St Barnabas House provides end of life care services, both at the hospice and in the community, for adults with advanced progressive life-limiting conditions.

These services are free of charge to patients and their families, but to provide them it costs £16,000 a day.

The charity is hoping that Wear it Festive will help to raise enough money to pay for all its services on Christmas Day.

Micawber Lettings of Salvington Road, Durrington, are the first company to sign up to take part in Wear it Festive, and will be holding their own festive fundraiser on Thursday, December 1, from 5-9pm.

The event, which is open to members of the public, will include prosecco, nibbles and a big raffle with lots of prizes. Tickets are £3 in advance or £5 on the door with all proceeds going to St Barnabas House.

Business owner Julie West said: “I tried to think of a fun way to raise some money for St Barnabas House. We have a number of clients who will be looking for presents for their wives, so we have arranged for Dandy Rocks to be at the event selling their stunning jewellery.

“We know so many people whose lives have been touched by St Barnabas. It is such a lovely hospice and such a great facility for our community, and we really want to support that.”

Wendy Bardsley, Community Fundraising Manager for St Barnabas House, said: “Julie is a great fundraiser and supporter of St Barnabas and put together a fabulous celebration for the Queen’s 90th birthday this year, so I know this will be another great event.”

Wear it Festive will take place on Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10, or people can pick their own date.
