Why is a dead pheasant hanging from Chichester Festival Theatre statue?

MYSTERY surrounds why a dead pheasant and a flower have been attached to an iconic city statue.

The dead female pheasant and white flower were spotted this morning (October 22) attached to the statue of Spartacus next to the Chichester Festival Theatre.

The bronze statue by sculptor Tom Merrifield was erected in 1988 and is from the ballet of the same name by Khachaturian.

The statue was inspired by the Bolshoi Ballet London performance of the piece.

The Observer has contacted the CFT to see if it was aware of the pheasant and is awaiting a response.
