WI hears report of AGM

Members of North Bersted WI heard Ann Wolsorth from Rose Green WI give her report of the Annual General Meeting that took place at the Royal Albert Hall.

With a blue sky and calm water seven members enjoyed the Solar boat trip at Itchenor and three members dressed suitably for the Westergate party. A reminder was given of the forthcoming Bersted Festival on July 15 with a request for cakes and helpers throughout the day. An open day is to be held in the hall on Saturday, August 4, 9am to Noon to show what can be achieved at Denman College when craft and the scrapbook will be on display. There will be a jam and cake stall and also refreshments.

A coach will be taking up to 15 members to a garden party with the link institute, Castle View, Portchester on Monday, August 20.

Mrs Claire Fecher, from West Chiltington demonstrated the use of ribbon for flowers and weaving. Her grandmother was a tailoress and an uncle a bespoke tailor and she was encouraged by the family to make a waistcoat and a pair of trousers and so she has followed on from there. She showed how weaving was held in place by iron-on interfacing and beautiful flowers were achieved by very simple stitching.

At the July meeting Roger Clark will talk on '˜Tales out of School'. The exhibition will be school memorabilia and social time Anagrams of Sussex. Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 2.45pm at Jubilee Community Centre, Chalcraft Lane. All welcome.
