Wick and Rustington braced for new superstores’ opening

A NEW multi-million pound superstore and petrol station in Wick is just days away from officially opening its doors to the public.

The Morrisions store, a redevelopment of the former Body Shop headquarters at the junction of the A259 and Lyminster Road, will begin its first day of trading on Monday, February 11.

The 47,500 sq ft site is set to boast a wide range of products, including fruit, vegetables, baked goods and meat.

Meanwhile, in Rustington, the first sign of work beginning on the planned redevelopment of the ageing Sainsbury’s branch, on the Rustington Retail Park, at New Road, is set to start with the business relocating into a nearby temporary store, on Wednesday (February 6).

The existing supermarket is due to close on the day before, at 6pm, before being demolished to make way for the new superstore, scheduled for completion at some point in the autumn.

The temporary unit, at the former Focus DIY premises, will be open between 7am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm, on Sundays.

Inside Morrisons at Wick, customers can expect to find a patisserie-style cake shop, a fresh-to-go counter serving food to take away as well as a café.

The store will also include a continental-style deli counter, with around 140 cuts of meat in the butchery and a selection of more than 80 cheeses from across the UK and around the world.

At the bakery there will be up to 48 varieties of bread baked fresh from scratch throughout the day by Morrisons’ bakers.
