Widespread flooding as more extreme weather hits county

EXTREME weather conditions hit West Sussex on Monday night, bringing flooding to many areas, following a day of torrential rain.

West Sussex fire crews were busy throughout the night dealing with more than 150 emergency calls to properties, roads and motorists stuck in cars affected by flood water.

Calls started coming in at 6pm, with many of them in clusters around the south of the county, with Bosham, Selsey, Chichester,Walberton, Barnham, Felpham, Littlehampton, Rustington, Ferring, Goring, Durrington and Worthing areas particularly badly affected.

In Seafield Avenue, Goring, homes were flooded by one foot of water and gardens became lakes. Residents said that on Monday evening it had been impossible to see the road outside because it was entirely under water.
