A WOMAN tragically fell to her death from the cliffs at Beachy Head in front of her husband.
Laraine Goodwin, aged 49, of Chapmans Close, Sundridge, Sevenoaks, Kent, died after she fell from the top of the cliff near Belle Tout Lighthouse just before 3pm on Saturday, July 14.
Mrs Goodwin’s body was recovered from the base of the cliff shortly afterwards.
Police said the tragic incident is not being treated as suspicious and nobody has been arrested.
A postmortem will be held this week followed by the formal opening and adjournment of an inquest.
The Coroner’s Officer has been informed and is continuing enquiries.
Bob Jeffery, a volunteer with Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat Station, said: “We were tasked by Solent Coastguard to recover a casualty from the beach below the Belle Tout lighthouse on Saturday afternoon.
“This we did and took the casualty back to the inshore lifeboat station where we passed her to the police coroner.
“We have no information about the casualty or how she got there.”
Eastbourne’s lifeboat station is more than 185-years-old.
