GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) employs 1,000 people at its manufacturing operation site in Southdown View Way, Worthing.
But the company also operates from another 100 locations and employs a total workforce of 100,000.
It has been confirmed today (Thursday, February 5) the group will be making job cuts in a bid to make savings of 1.7billion by 2011.
Asked about any possible job cuts in Worthing, a GSK spokesman said: "The majority of them (job cuts] won't be in the UK."
The spokesman said the number of job cuts and their locations had not been announced and the details would not be revealed until the company's chief executive had met with staff first.
But, he said: "We can't rule out any job cuts in Worthing."
The drugs maker has already cut 2,000 positions in the UK out of 10,000 roles axed globally since 2007, when it first announced a programme to cut costs.
