Willingdon, Wannock and Jevington

OUR REMEMBRANCE SERVICE: At 11am on November 11 at the Triangle, Lower Willingdon went very well with many residents attending a small service conducted by Father Kevin Agnew from St Mary the Virgin, assisted by Rev David Yule of Trinity Church. On Sunday we had a magnificent parade as usual led by the Kingfisher Band from Upper Kings Drive to St Mary the Virgin Church. The Willingdon Branch of the British Legiion followed by Councilors, Scouts, Cubs, and Beavers from the 1st and 2nd Willingdon Scout Groups, Willingdon Guides and Brownies, and Representatives from St Johns Ambulances all paraded to the church where they were met by Ian White, Piper. A moving service followed by the laying of an additional wreath in the Garden of Remembrance took place. In the afternoon another service took place organized by the Parish Council at the Ruthless Memorial at Butts Brow , where Councillors were joined by our MP Caroline Ansell and the Mayor of Eastbourne Pat Hearn. The service was also taken by Father Kevin Agnew. (Jon Pritchett).

THANK YOU: On behalf of the Willingdon Branch of the Royal British Legion, we would like to thank everyone for the fantastic involvement of in the Remembrance Parades held on Sunday at St Mary’s Church, Willingdon in the morning and at the Ruthless Memorial on Butts Brow in the afternoon. A special thanks to Father Kevin Agnew for taking the services. The Kingfisher Scout Band for the marching music. LESS HAPPY NOTE: On a less happy note, to the person who tore down the large poppies in Church Street, and Huggetts Lane. They were installed with the permission of the parish council and Highways England and were there in remembrance of the fallen of Willingdon. WANNOCK ARTISTS: Members are reminded that the AGM is scheduled for today, Friday, at Wannock Village Hall. This will be held at 7pm to 9pm. Subscriptions can be paid at that time. Refreshments are available after the meeting and the groups archives will also be on show. The next demonstration takes place on January 27 when Josie Tipler will be painting an animal portrait in pastels.
