The date and venue for this coming event is next Friday February 26th at 7 for 7.30pm in the Court Hall. Barnaby Phillips’ talk concerns the Second World War when Britain took 100,000 African soldiers to the jungles of Burma to fight against the Japanese. These were the so-called ‘Burma Boys’ and he will be looking at what impact their experiences had on them. His talk refers to the book he wrote in 2014 which is called, Another Man’s War: The Story of A Burma Boy in Britain’s Forgotten Army. Barnaby Phillips is a TV and radio journalist who worked for 15 years with the BBC and was based in Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria and South Africa.

Empty the bin: Recently a dog waste bin near the Green at Dogs Hill was close to over-flowing before finally being emptied. Now there is a strange case in Icklesham where a serviceable bin used for the disposal of dog waste bags has been encased in a black bin liner to prevent its further use. It has been in this condition for about a month. As a result the dog bags which should have been deposited in the normal way have instead started to accumulate around the foot of the bin and on the top of it like some dystopian art form. Clearly it is distasteful for people waiting at the nearby bus stop and may soon degenerate to a health hazard. In view of the potential risks at least one person in the village has made a written complaint to Rother District Council, pointing out that if the bin is full empty it (making appropriate use of the covering refuse bag) or if it is damaged beyond repair then replace it. In the meantime we must hope that the waste bags are all bio-degradable.
