Poetry workshop: The extracts from poems have now been emailed to members ready for this evening's (Friday) seminar with Jonty Driver at the Literary Society's meeting. Jonty will be discussing these different poems which include The English Astronaut by Simon Armitage, The Art of Losing by Elizabeth Bishop and Barn Owl by Gwen Harwood and if you do not have copies to refer to there will be extra ones when you arrive. The evening promises to be informative, informal and fascinating and begins at 7 for 7.30pm in the Court Hall with light refreshments available.

Hospice at Home: Winchelsea Mayoress Ann Spencer has arranged a meeting in support of St Michael’s Hospice for Monday January 18th at 2pm in the Court Hall. Members of the Hospice at Home team, including the Head of Fundraising will be attending the meeting and local residents are invited to come along and hear how Winchelsea’s donations have been used over the last six months. These donations are the result of various fund raising events held in the town as well as individual contributions to this good cause. Looking ahead a date for your diaries, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice is the Ceilidh Dance and a demonstration by Hastings Scottish Dance Club. This event will be held on Friday March 11th in the New Hall.

Winter Lecture: Fergus Garrett Head Gardener at Great Dixter is coming to the New Hall next Saturday January 23rd at 2.30pm. He will be giving a talk for the Garden Society on ‘Designing with Plants at Great Dixter’ and admission is £4 for members, otherwise £5 at the door. Great Dixter is a medieval manor house in Northiam which many people in the town have visited for its outstanding garden which attracts horticulturalists from all over the world. The garden is regarded as complex and high maintenance with mixed borders so that different plants can grow together and help each other as well as forming a colourful tapestry. Also, Society members should note that the membership subscription has gone up to £5 but there will be no charge for admission to the Spring and Autumn Shows. You can renew your membership at the meeting if you wish. A date for your diary is the visit to Wisley on February 18th and tickets are £17 each and will be on sale at the lecture.

Next Bingo: Following the Christmas break Cash Bingo is scheduled to return on Wednesday February 10th with Eyes Down at 7.15pm promptly. As usual please meet in the Community Hall at 7pm. During the evening there will be refreshments and a raffle and children are invited but players must be over 16.
