Sounds of Tradition: The New Inn will be hosting Terry Hulf’s Session Band tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm. Much-acclaimed artist and violinist, Winchelsea Beach resident Terry Hulf together with his accomplished Band play tango music and traditional folk tunes. Terry and his Session Band also performed at the Winchelsea Mummers Play with its cast of fantastic characters, at the New Inn in early January, as arranged by the Bonfire Boyes.

Annual Curry Night: The popular Curry Night with the Bonfire Boyes takes place on Saturday February 21st at 7.30pm in the New Hall. Tickets must be bought in advance by contacting the following number: 01797 224446 and the cost is £14 p.p. or 1,600 rupees. During the evening a bar and raffle will be available.

Loss of Tea Room: An ongoing reduction in the opening hours of the tea room has finally led to its demise. Until recently the tea room was situated at the back of the Winchelsea Farm Foods shop and was popular for its variety of cakes and coffee. However the days when the business remained closed included Sundays which are the busiest days in a tea shop’s week, as well as Mothering Sundays and Easter Weekends. Last year opening hours were cut to three days, Thursday to Saturday and this saw the beginning of the end for the tea room. This latest closure means that both the long-serving Danny and the tea room manageress have been made redundant. Some of the empty space in the shop will now be used to host the subpost office, which will be moving from the vacant Little Shop, provided the WiFi connection works. There have been discussions between Post Office Ltd and the New Inn about opening a full-time subpost office in the pub but so far this has not materialised. The Little Shop is now to be leased out as an art gallery. A notice posted on the windows of Winchelsea Farm Foods seeks to reassure residents that there is no intention of closing the shop but that it does require their support. There is also talk of turning the business into a traditional village shop selling everyday essentials rather than less usual items like Himalayan pink salt. On a more hopeful note for the town the New Inn is endeavouring to fill the void by opening for freshly ground coffee, tea and cake at 9am on Mondays to Fridays. There are also plans to open a tea room in the stable block at the rear of the pub once that is refurbished.

Flood Alert: An open public meeting with Amber Rudd MP will be held tomorrow (Saturday February 31st) at 11.30am at the Winchelsea Beach Community Hall. Amber will be there to listen to residents and Councillors concerns about the flooding problems so do make every effort to attend. Icklesham Parish Council requests that if you are affected by flooding it is important that you contact Southern Water on 0845 278 0845 and quote the dedicated reference number 3481429. This will automatically trigger a member of Southern Water operations to be dispatched to investigate urgently. Please do not leave it to a neighbour to call as it is important that every incident is logged.

Evening Prayer: The monthly Winchelsea Beach Evening Prayer service led by Canon Robin Whitehead will be held this Sunday on the first day of February at 3 for 3.30pm. After the service there will be an opportunity to meet together in the downstairs room and light refreshments will be available.
