Poetry and Prose: Members of the Literary Society are invited to bring any poetry or prose they would like to share commemorating 1914; from the time of the outbreak of the Great War. The meeting is this evening (Friday) at 7 for 7.30pm in the Court Hall.

All most welcome: Tomorrow morning November 15th at 10am Rev Ian Pruden, Minister in the Hastings, Rye Methodist Circuit, will be giving a talk in the Methodist Chapel. Starting at 10am light refreshments will be available and then at 10.30am Ian will be sharing his thoughts on ‘Spirituality and Faith in WWI’.

Craft Group: On Thursday November 20th the New Hall Society Craft Group will be meeting in the New Hall from 2 to 4pm. They have been meeting since the summer and this is an opportunity to finish off the different items being made and price them up for the Christmas Fair on November 29th. PCC meeting: The Parochial Church Council is meeting on Friday November 21st at 7pm in St Richard’s Church. This is its busiest meeting of the year where it will be approving the 2015 budget and agreeing the fee structure. In addition it will be agreeing the charity for the last Sunday collections in 2015 and will also agree the plan for Christmas services. If there are any matters you would like to have discussed please inform the secretary or a PCC member. There is a list giving the names of members on the notice board at the Church.

WAS talk: Winchelsea Archaeological Society is holding a talk on Saturday November 22nd at 3pm in St Thomas’ Church. The talk which is open to all is given by Jill Eddison and is on the subject of Medieval Pirates. Jill Eddison is the author of ‘Medieval Pirates: Pirates, Raiders and Privateers 1204-1453’ and she describes the English Channel in the Medieval period as a perilous stretch of water where piracy was encouraged as a cheap alternative to warfare.

Bowls Quiz: Winchelsea Bowls Club has organised a Quiz for Saturday November 22nd at 6.30 for a 7pm start in the New Hall. Tables of six should be booked in advance by contacting Peter Turner on 01797 224617. The entry fee is £9 per person which includes two courses of refreshments. There is a vegetarian option which you will need to request when booking and wine and beer will be available during the evening.

Travelling Crib: Joseph and Mary will be starting their journey around the parish on Advent Sunday November 30th and returning to St Thomas’ Church on Christmas Eve. If you would like to offer these two small nativity figures accommodation for a night or two, even though there is not usually room at the inn, please sign up on the list at the back of the Church. Ideally 24 hosts are needed and if you have any questions please talk to Marion Lovell at the Church to find out more. The journey this year will take the special couple to Winchelsea, Winchelsea Beach and Icklesham and exact dates of visits will be arranged by the end of the month. Mary and Joseph will visit individual homes or groups like the primary school and beg shelter for the night. The hosts welcome them in, a candle is lit and short prayers are said. They then stay the night before moving on to the next hosts and it is a way for all involved to remember their journey and its hazards.

Entertainment: Tomorrow (Saturday) Pub 31 in Winchelsea Beach will be entertained by Dead Rabbit which is described as ‘a young energetic cover band with a twist’. Come along for 8.30pm onwards.

Winter birds: Now that the cold weather is approaching there is a chance to see winter birds at Winchelsea Beach on Sunday November 16th beginning at 10.30am. Some of the winter visitors will be wildfowl, waders, finches and raptors and the walk is approximately three miles around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Please meet at Rye Harbour car park at 10.30am for the event which will be finished by 1pm. There is no need to book just turn up and your donations towards the Reserve will be gratefully received.
