Where was Old Winchelsea? This subject will be discussed at the Roundtable in the New Inn on Wednesday November 27th at 7pm. Members of Winchelsea Archaeological Society have organised the first of what they hope will become bi-monthly sessions, seated in a convivial atmosphere with a few drinks and some eats to discuss a chosen topic of interest. One or two members and invited expert guests will take the lead at these discussions, bringing material, arguments and questions. Everyone is welcome to join in and Dr Barry Yates is the guest at this first meeting.

The Marshlink train which runs between Hastings and Ashford is one important means of transport in the area. Therefore it is to not too surprising that a Marshlink Community Rail Partnership Meeting is due to take place with Simon Chapman, Network Rail and Kevin Boorman, Marshlink Chairman. If you are interested in the future potential of the Marshlink Plus you are invited to attend and hear more about the work of the Community Rail Partnership. This Annual Stakeholder meeting will be held on Thursday November 28th at 2.30 to 4.30pm in Hastings Town Hall. The contact details are 07891 556897 or [email protected] if you would like to find out more or submit a question in your absence.

Gardeners’ Question Time is only a week away on Thursday November 28th but in the meantime the Garden Society needs your questions. They would like to let the panel have a good number of questions that have been sent in beforehand as well as questions asked fresh on the night. If you could think of some and let Howard Norton have them this week he would be very grateful. On the night, you’ll be able to ask your questions in person but if you’d like to write them on a piece of paper for the chairman to read out, that would be fine also. (You can be anonymous if you want). If you have a plant in poor condition please do bring it along, even a bit of it and the panel will attempt a diagnosis. The panel of experts is Julia Cooper, John Dunk, Alice Kenyon and Chris Mears and Question Time begins at 7.30pm in the Lower Court Hall.

The Christmas Fair is held this year on Saturday 30th November from 10am till 1pm in the New Hall and admission is 50p. The autumn edition of Icklesham Eye, the newsletter from Icklesham Parish Council contains an update regarding the ongoing problem of flooding at Winchelsea Beach. It appears that this situation has now become a priority for the Parish Council who at present is working with Rother District Council and East Sussex County Council to resolve the matter. At the last council meeting an agreement was reached to contact MP Amber Rudd and request her support and the Parish Council will be keeping us informed of progress.
