This Sunday (27th May) is Pentecost/Whit Sunday and the 10.30 am Choral Eucharist service at St Thomas’ Church will be with the Junior Choir. Being the last Sunday of the month the charity collection will be for the Brooke Foundation.

This organisation helps owners of donkeys and mules which are used for carrying heavy burdens like bricks, in countries such as Egypt or Ethiopia, to understand that if they treat their animals in a better way more work can be achieved. At present the animals have little rest during the day, no water even in temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and poor food. By providing information, vet services and education the life of the donkeys is much improved. The owners benefit as well because the animals can work better and live longer. Owners are encouraged to think of the donkeys as animals not machines.

Winchelsea Moving Pictures will be showing the film The Artist on Monday 28th May at 7 for 7.30 pm in the New Hall. The Artist is an award winning 2011 French comedy drama in the style of a black and white silent film.

The Mobile Library will be in Castle Street on Wednesday 30th May at the usual time of 1.40 to 2.10 pm.

As part of the Jubilee celebrations next weekend there will be a Photo Exhibition in the Lower Court Hall on Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd June. The theme is the 1953 Coronation and Recollections of England and Winchelsea in the early 1950s. If you have a memory of the time you could lend for the exhibition such as pottery, stamps, linen, pictures, a photo of yourself 60 years ago as a young person (doesn’t have to be in Winchelsea) a short recollection of your memory of the Coronation day of the 1950s for the ‘Pin a Memory’ board, all would be appreciated and the person to contact is Melvyn Pett on 07801569295 or [email protected]
