Winchelsea village voice - March 30

Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be a Church Market with stalls selling home-made produce from 10.30 am to noon. Coffee/tea and friendly company also available and Iain Kerr will be entertaining on the piano. All proceeds are in aid of church funds.

Also tomorrow it is the annual Spring Show by the Winchelsea Garden Society. Doors will open at 2 pm in the New Hall and entrance cost is 50p. As always all are invited to these events to see the displays of spring flowers in the competition and stop for a cup of tea. A raffle and plant sales will also be available as well as a good burst of spring sunshine.

The Holy Week services at St Thomas’s Church begin on Palm Sunday, 1st April with the 8 am and 10.30 am Holy Eucharists where the palm crosses will be distributed. On 2nd April Holy Monday the service begins at 6 pm then on Tuesday 3rd April at noon in Canterbury Cathedral and Wednesday 9.30 pm at the church. For Maundy Thursday the Eucharist of the Last Supper & Watch starts at 7.30 pm; Good Friday begins at noon with Stations of the Cross followed at 2 pm by the Solemn Liturgy. Holy Saturday begins with an Ante Communion at 9.30 am and ends with an Easter Vigil at 8 pm. On Easter Sunday, 8th April the Holy Eucharist services are at 8 am and 10.30 am and will include the Renewal of Baptismal Vows.

Winchelsea Moving Pictures will be showing My Week with Marilyn on Monday 2nd April at 7 for 7.30 pm in the New Hall. The film stars Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe and is a true account, by British documentary filmmaker Colin Clark, of time spent with Monroe in 1956 when she was newly married to Arthur Miller.

A Celebration of Holy Communion for Easter Holy Week will be held at the Methodist Chapel on Wednesday 4th April at 7.30 pm. This is an ‘Open Table’ to whom all who love the Lord Jesus Christ are most welcome. Rev Ian Wales, Superintendent Minister of the Hastings, Bexhill & Rye Methodist Circuit will be leading the service which will be followed by light refreshments.

The Mobile Library will be in Castle Street on Wednesday 4th April between 1.40 and 2.10 pm.

Bookings are being taken for this year’s Cellar Tours starting in April. The Friends of the Ancient Monuments & Museum (FOAM) are holding Cellar Tours on the weekend of the 7th & 8th April at 11 am meeting at the Town Well in Castle Street. The tours last about 90 minutes and cost £5 per person with proceeds in aid of the maintenance of the ancient monuments. The Cellar Tours for Winchelsea Archaeological Society (WAS) take place on Saturday 7th and Monday 9th April at 2 pm meeting by the Town Well. Tours last 90 minutes and a guidebook to the cellars is provided. The cost is £5 per person and the funds will go towards archaeology in Winchelsea.
