The Windmill at Windmill Hill will begin producing flour for the first time since 1894 after the sweeps, which have been refurbished, were put back into position this week.
Lottery funding in 2001 allowed the windmill building to be restored for visitors in 2006 but further funding was required to get it back to working order.
This was all been made possible by further lottery funding and work carried out by a team of volunteers alongside professionals, who have been employed for the specialist work required.
Once the ancillary machinery has been connected up to the sweep mechanism, the team of workers at the Windmill shall be commissioning over the next few weeks so that flour can be produced again.
The last opening of the season is Sunday, October 18 from 2.30 to 5pm, where visitors will be able to see what has been done and what needs to be done.
