Wine centre owner retires

THE English Wine Centre in Alfriston is under new ownership.

After 35 years owner Christoper Ann has retired.

Mr Ann and his wife Wendy are dividing their time between Cornwall and sampling fine wines in France.

The new owners are Colin and Christine Munday.

The couple have lived in East Sussex for more than 30 years and worked in London.

Mrs Munday worked as a stockbroker, calligrapher and designer before becoming a perfume mixer.

Mr Munday was a chartered accountant. He has also headed several advertising and communication companies around the world.

Mr Munday said: 'I am a lover of food and wine and wanted to leave London and the world of advertising to work with Christine.

'A great opportunity occurred to purchase the English Wine Centre and build from the good base that Christopher and his employees have worked so hard to achieve.'

Existing employees will keep their jobs under the change of ownership.

The English Wine Centre has a shop and wine museum used for events.

It was started in 1972 by Christopher Ann. He founded the English Wine Festival which is in its 33rd year.
