Winners of thesporting awards

And the College honoured the sports achievements of its students by holding a special Awards Night.

PE teacher Stuart Farlow said: “With the Olympics fresh in everybody’s minds, the question remains: what will be the legacy of this spectacular event?

“At Rye College, we believe that it should be to promote the enjoyment of sport at all levels and the celebration of excellence, achievement, effort and commitment.”

The hall was lit up red with LED lights running down the side and a red carpet leading up to the trophies.

Students, in formal dress, sat on tables in their sports teams and were joined by around 250 guests.

The night began with guest speaker Claire Harvey, a member of the Team GB paralympic Volleyball squad, who gave an inspiring 20 minute presentation on her life, career and time at the London Olympics.

Former Rye student and professional footballer Richard Rose handed out awards to the Girls Football Team, for being the most improved team, and the Year 9 Boys Football Team, who were team of the Year.

The evening finished with a bang as pyrotechnics and confetti filled the hall as Joe Lovell collected his award of Sports Personality of the Year.

A raffle concluded the evening with prizes including tickets to watch London Irish v Sale Sharks, CB40 Cricket match at Sussex Sharks,Olympic Medallist Greg Rutherford signed shirt and a BHAFC signed Football shirt.
