Winston's Wish at Goodwood Motor Circuit

A day of fun for all the family at Goodwood Motor Circuit on Sunday, June 11 marks the launch of the appeal for a West Sussex branch of the child bereavement charity Winston's Wish.

If you are between six and 16 you can sign up for a sponsored bike ride around the famous motor circuit track.

"Two and a half miles in circumference, this is a rare opportunity to ride around the famous circuit," said charity spokeswoman Clare Scherer.

"To make this a day of fun for all the family, Winston's Wish would like to invite you to bring the whole family along. There will be bouncy castles, bungee jumps, face-painting, puppet shows, ice-cream vans and the chance to see some of the Wacky Races cars from the Festival of Speed. The day will end with the release of hundreds of Winston's Wish memory balloons, each one representing a parent or sibling who has died."

Clare added: "In the UK a child is bereaved of a parent every 30 minutes. This year the appeal, spearheaded by the president of Winston's Wish, the Countess of March and Kinrara, is being launched to raise the funds to establish the West Sussex branch of Winston's Wish, a charity that provides advice, information and support to children whose mother, father, brother or sister has died.

"The charity helps each child to understand its past, cope with the present and feel confident in the future. To know you can survive the loss of a parent or sibling can build resilience and a yearning to meet others who are going through the same.

"Winston's Wish utilises a variety of creative approaches to engage a child's imagination and help them and everyone in their family to cope with holding on whilst letting go.
