Winter opening hours are in place at the county’s Household Waste Recycling Sites.

The winter opening hours are in place to allow residents to make more use of the sites during daylight hours and to enable people who work from 9 to 5 to do their recycling before work.

The recycling sites at Hastings, Heathfield, Lewes, Maresfield, Mountfield and Newhaven in East Sussex will open to the public at 8am and close at 4pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday hours will also change, with sites opening at 9am and closing at 4pm.

Opening hours at the Crowborough and Eastbourne sites will remain the same - Crowborough: Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am until 1pm (closed bank holidays) and Eastbourne: Monday to Thursday 9am until 4pm, Friday 9am until 3.30pm, Saturday and Sunday 8.00am until 12.00 noon (closed bank holidays).

The Hailsham site will open 8am until 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am until 1pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day).

The winter hours at Forest Row, Seaford and Wadhurst will be: Monday to Thursday: Closed, Friday and Saturday 8.00am until 4.00pm and Sunday: 9.00am until 4.00pm, from Monday to Thursday residents can use any of the other nine Household Waste Recycling Sites in East Sussex.

Martin Benson, HWRS’s manager for Veolia explains: “We aim to provide the best possible service to all our customers and changing to winter opening times will maximise opportunities for people to use the sites. We have also found that during the winter period there are very few visitors in the last hour of the day.

“We strive to be as consistent as possible however, at a few sites opening times will still vary. We would urge people to visit our website at or call 01273 511324 to see what winter hours their local site will be operating.“

Veolia manages East Sussex’s 14 Household Waste Recycling Sites as part of an integrated waste management service.
