Winter magic for Uckfield shoppers

Uckfield High Street will be transformed into a winter wonderland tonight (Friday, December 6) when the town stages its late night shopping evening from 6 to 9pm.

Shops will be open and practially every one in the town is decorated overall - Christmas lights floating above the High Street also give the town a surreal and magical air after dark.

Many businesses will be inviting visitors in to enjoy a glass or two of mulled wine and a mince pie. Anyone walking down the east side of the High Street near Carvills will probably see real snowflakes drifting down onto the pavements.

Uckfield’s own radio station, UckfieldFM will host live broadcasts throughout the day from its covered stage in the centre of the High Street. There will be a fun roadshow, carol singers and live performances from children from most of the town’s primary schools; watch out for proud families and the odd tear or two.

Elizabeth Gardens is the setting for a truly wintry scene, courtesy of Uckfield’s Kings Church. Meanwhile Father Christmas takes time out from organising his worldwide itinerary to pay a visit to Uckfield Lions holding court at Bridge Cottage. This is also the setting for work by some of Uckfield’s talented artists.

Up the road where shops have now recovered from the devastating impact of the town’s major fire, there will be a full-scale Christmas Fair at the Hop Barn and celebrations throughout the pretty Olive’s Yard.

The whole evening is organised by energetic members of Uckfield’s Chamber of Commerce who help to pay for the town lights by selling 6,500 copies of their magazine Festive Fantasies, delivered free to all households this week.
