Witless thieves caught out by police in tracking bait bid

WITLESS criminals stole three ‘items’ at an undisclosed location in Wealden District on Wednesday, July 4.

But they did not realise that the goods were ‘tracking bait’ carefully placed by Wealden Police.

It meant the criminals were easily tracked down and caught.

All items were retrieved, according to Wealden Police, and arrests made.

“Don’t risk it as we may be tracking it,” was the message given afterwards by police.

Chief Inspector Richard Coates, the Wealden District Police Commander, was pleased with the result, and added: “The criminals will get the message.”

Chief Insp Coates gave this warning to thieves: “We are coming after you. Don’t steal. You never know if we can track it.”
