The five men, all from the London area, died after getting into difficulty in the sea on August 24, despite efforts to save them.

Nitharsan Ravi, 22, brothers Kenugen, 19, and Kobikanthan Saththiyanathan, 21, Gurushanth Srithavarajah and Inthushan Sriskantharasa, 23, were friends and family and had travelled to Sussex together for a day out.

The East Sussex coroner, Alan Craze, opened the inquests at the beginning of the month and spoke to Sussex Police about helping him gather more witnesses for the full inquests.

Detective Sergeant Alex Campbell said: “This was an incredibly tragic incident to have happened on such a popular beach.

“To help with the inquest we are appealing to anyone, around the country, who was at Camber Sands on August 24, who may have seen these men in the sea, to please get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information or witnesses should call 101, quoting Operation Worcester.
