Woman arrested after OAP seriously hurt in crash

A pensioner from Ninfield has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after an 87-year-old man was hit by a car in Bexhill yesterday (Wednesday).

The elderly pedestrian was crossing the road outside the Post Office in Peartree Lane, near the Little Common roundabout, at around 3.10pm when he was hit by a blue Ford Escort.

The man was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with head injuries and a fractured neck.

His condition early on Thursday morning was described as stable.

The driver of the Escort, a 71-year-old woman from Ninfield, was uninjured, but arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

She was later further arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and bailed until September 14.
