“It’s only a cheap bit of broccoli so nothing major, but they should really look into it.

“I’m just utterly appalled and want to make others aware.”

She had bought the wrapped vegetable from the store on May 30 and opened it on June 5.

Upon finding the creepy crawlies, Sophie says she contacted Lidl via email to complain but received no response.

She said, I’m just concerned for other people who might have bought this product.”

A spokesperson for Lidl has since apologised over the incident.

They said, “We were very sorry to hear of this matter. At Lidl, we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that the fresh fruit and vegetables in our stores are of the highest possible quality for our customers.

“We were therefore disappointed that, on this occasion, the product did not meet the high standards that both we and our customers expect.

“Following contact from the customer on the June 8, the matter was immediately escalated to our quality assurance team who have launched an investigation and are in touch with the customer to gather further information.

“Upon conclusion of the investigation, the customer will be updated directly on findings and any next steps.”
