It has led to renewed calls for safety improvements on the A21 at Hurst Green.

The parish council has been campaigning for years to get a reduced speed limit.

Parish Council chairman Graham Browne said: “It highlights how dangerous this road is and how badly we need safety measures.

“We have a national speed limit here even though it is a built-up area with 30 houses in a quarter of a mile strip.

“There are also busy businesses here such as Orchard Farm shop and two service stations.”

“The council would like to see a 40mph speed limit but police have said that would not be enforceable.

“We have been promised a reduction to 50mph for two years now and we are still waiting. There was not the money in the budget this year and so it has been put back again.

“You would think police would support a speed reduction.”

In a separate incident, in Battle High Street on Monday afternoon, a 15 year old girl sustained a broken wrist after being hit by a BMW car.
