Woman hospitalised after A259 four-car crash

EMERGENCY services had to free an injured woman from her car following collision on the A259 this morning (Wednesday, June 19).

More than a dozen firefighters from Littlehampton and Worthing, alongside police and ambulance services, were called to a four-car collision on the A259, opposite the Highdown Drive junction, shortly before 9am.

One woman, travelling in a black Audi A2, suffered neck injuries.

Fire crews were forced to cut the roof off her car to extract her from the vehicle, which had sustained minor damage.

She was taken to Worthing Hospital by ambulance for a precautionary check.

Firefighter Roy Barraclough, district commander for Worthing, explained: “We can never be too careful when it comes to neck injuries.

“One slight move could cause permanent paralysis, so we always take the upmost care when dealing with casualties of this nature.”

Specialist crews from Worthing cut through the woman’s windshield before removing the roof with hydraulic cutting equipment.

Two other motorists were also injured but were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.
