Woman raped in Hastings

Police are appealing to a taxi driver who picked up a man and a woman in Havelock Road, Hastings, on Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday (May 24) to come forward after the woman was raped.

A 40-year-old woman from St Leonards had been out with friends in the town.

She decided to go home and was waiting at the taxi rank outside Wetherspoons on Havelock Road when she was approached by a man and they began talking.

They got into a taxi together and went back to an unknown address where he raped her.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “This man is described as being black with short dreadlocks, between 5’ 4” to 5’ 5”, around 30 years old and was wearing a red hooded top and had a stud earring in his right ear.

“We are appealing to the taxi driver who might have picked up a man matching this description from Havelock Road between 11.30pm and 3am.

“If anyone was in the area on Saturday night do you remember seeing a man of this description?”
