Woman spared jail after assault

A Bognor Regis woman has been spared a jail sentence after beating up a security guard who apprehended her for stealing more than £200 of goods.

Donna Blissett of Stocker Road went into Superdrug in East Street, Chichester on March 26 and wandered around the store taking security tags off items including a number of electric tooth brushes.

After being caught walking out of the shop without paying for the 286 of goods and a security guard asking her to come back into the store, she refused but then agreed.

When questioned, the 38-year-old began lashing out, attempting to headbut and punch the guard before grabbing at his crotch.

She also used a box to hit him repeatedly over the head, causing a cut.

Chairman of the magistrates Patrick Madely said: "There were some serious aggravating features about this.

"It was a non-spur-of-the-moment thing."

Blissett pleaded guilty to assault and theft at Chichester Magistrates' Court and was given an 18-week sentence suspended for 12 months.
