Joanne Andrews, 40, is going on a plane for the first time in her life to raise money for the Friends of Conquest Hospital’s scanner appeal.

Joanne said: ‘‘I always wanted to do a skydive but have never had the funds. I got the skydive as a 40th birthday present.’’

Joanne heard about the fundraising campaign from her auntie. She said: ‘‘My aunt is on the committee and my dad has vascular dementia, so he needs this MRI scanner.’’

The Conquest25 MRI Scanner Appeal hopes to raise £1 million to buy the new machine, and is already more than halfway towards its target having raised £600,000 in donations and pledges.

Joanne has now raised around £500 for her skydive, and is hoping for more donations. She will be taking the plunge on Saturday (May 27) at Headcorn.

But Joanne is unlikely to stop there and is already looking forward to her next adventure.

Plenty of fundraisers have been taking place to raise money for the Conquest25 MRI Scanner Appeal, with many more in the pipeline.

There is a Texas Scramble golf day in Sedlescombe on June 9, starting at 8.30am following a breakfast at 7.30am, and a free garden party on June 10 in Marwick Gardens, St Leonards.
