Debbie Lamb is the activity co-ordinator at St Wilfrids Arundel Priory in London Road and wanted to help the team raise some cash towards a new minibus that will allow residents to go on trips in the summer.

Home manager Rachel Staker said: “We had a meeting and the residents decided they wanted to start fundraising for a minibus and this was the first of our activities.”

Debbie announced to the team that she wanted to have all her hair shaved off, but not until she raised at least £100. However, once the priory had reached the £300 mark, there was no going back.

“I really admired her for having the courage to do it,” continued Rachel. “I’m not sure I would have been able to make that decision. It’s a very courageous thing to do.”

All the staff and residents were watching the moment Debbie lost her hair, accompanied by the sounds of gasps.

“I think they were all amazed when she’d done it,” Rachel added.

St Wifrids Arundel Priory is part of the St Johns Care Trust, a charity. It is located on the grounds of Arundel Castle and has 23 residents.

“We’re looking to raise a total of £20,000 for the minibus.

“Any donations would be gratefully received to help us enhance our residents’ lives,” she said.
