Elaine Ansell, 68, of Ophir Road, found the message inscribed in the wall of the 1960s home, seemingly from builders of her property.

The message reads: “Work completed by Lew and Knocker, Nov 1963.”

Now, 50 years on, Mrs Ansell hopes to track down the mystery messengers.

She said: “I first noticed it a few years ago, but given that it is 50 years to the month, I would love to track them down.

“I would like to know if Lew and Knocker are out there, perhaps even meet them and thank them for the work they did.

“They could be in their 70s or 80s by now, so there is a chance they could still be alive.”

Deeds for Mrs Ansell’s property confirm it was built ‘around 1963’, as part of the development of Hopeview Nursery.

It does not say, however, which developer was responsible for the project.

Mrs Ansell said: “I think it is an interesting piece of history.

“I have been very happy with Lew and Knocker’s work.”

Anyone with information about the message can call 01903 282347.
