Women’s Land Army to be focus of talk in Newhaven

Local historian Ian Everest will give a talk entitled The Women’s Land Army - A Sussex Connection.

It will take place at The Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, on Tuesday October 1 at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The talk is organised by Newhaven Historical Society.

Ian’s mother was one of the 80,000 Land Girls during World War II and the talk includes some of her personal memories and a potted history of the role of women on farms during two world wars.

The Women’s Land Army was created during the First and Second World Wars to work in agriculture, replacing men called up to the military.

Guests are welcome to the event but there will be an admission charge of £2.
