WONDER OF WORTHING: Offers of help for drama group

KIND-HEARTED people have come forward to help a children’s production of The Wizard of Oz, which was nearly cancelled when thieves stole money earmarked for costumes and props.

W reported on the £600 being stolen, earlier in the year, from the Worthing home of Victoria Monroe, who runs the not-for-profit drama group Tori Productions.

Since then, various people have come forward to help the group, with Worthing production company, Regnante School of Performing Arts and Theatre Productions, offering Wizard of Oz costumes and other people offering to run stalls at the Tori Productions’ fête.

There has also been financial support provided by Worthing Rotary Club, who will match every pound raised at the fête, up to £300.

Victoria, 32, of The Drive, Worthing, said: “It’s lovely that people have come forward and been so generous.

“When someone enters your home it shakes you up and makes you feel pessimistically about the world.

“But when strangers phone you to offer help, it makes you realise it’s a one-off and there are nice people out there.”

Tori Productions’ winter fête takes place at the Scout Hall, at St Andrew’s School, in Sackville Road, Worthing on Saturday, November 13. It runs from 10am to 8pm and will include a bouncy castle, face painting, cakes and books, as well as crafts and dance workshops.

The Wizard of Oz will be performed at the Windmill Theatre, Littlehampton, in December.
