WOOD WATCH: Day 33 - VIDEO: Your views on the chipping process

Chipping of the wood, which washed up in Worthing last month, started last Thursday (February 14) on the seafront in Heene.

The area has been fenced off while Homegrown Timber use machinery to chip the pine wood before it is taken away to be burned and used for bio-fuel.

Council bosses have informed residents and businesses in the area of the work, which is taking place daily.

Sarah Thompson, 48, of Guildford Way, Worthing, said the council operation had been "sensible" and the chipping was a "practical solution".

John Tomlin, 68, from Horsham, visits Worthing every week and said it was a credit to the council that it has responded so positively.

"The beaches are actually cleaner than they were before," he said.

Linda Hulse, 56, a foster carer from Crawley, added: "It's well organised in terms of the fencing and is safer for the kids."

Mick Jones, 43, of Broadwater Road, Broadwater, was on the seafront taking photographs of the wood to send to his mother in Liverpool.

His mother thought the wood had been cleared completely, but her son was able to pictures to show her it was still there and now being chipped.
