Work kicks off to replace Newhaven’s 370m leaky water main

South East Water says businesses will remain open as work to replace a leaky water main starts in Avis Road in Newhaven.

Delivery manager at South East Water, James Smith, said following a number of bursts a new 370 metre long section of pipeline would be installed.

He said: “This should end the pain caused to motorists, businesses and residents by unplanned emergency repairs.

“We anticipate this work will be completed by late December and we are keen to stress that while it is taking place all businesses in the local area will remain open as usual.

“To keep the public and our workforce safe, while maintaining access to businesses and homes, construction will be carried out using temporary traffic lights.”

Work was due to start on Wednesday October 23 in Powell Gardens before crossing into Avis Road and ending in Avis Close.

South East Water apologised to people for any inconvenience that the work might cause and thanked them in for their patience and cooperation.

The scheme forms part of South East Water’s five year, £390m investment to improve the water network.
