Work of Chichester and Arun Special Constables recognised

THE work of Special Constables who give up their time as volunteers for Sussex Police was celebrated at the weekend.

During the event, the work of specials across the area was outlined.

Examples included help from Arun specials with bonfire celebrations and two Chichester specials working to target metal thefts.

In the Chichester district, specials were part of the team targeting scrap metal dealers to check for stolen metal as part of Operation Alloy.

Inspector Martin Pattenden said: “Sussex Police values the contribution made by our special constabulary and we wanted to recognise their input and celebrate the work undertaken with our communities.

“Every year these volunteers give up hundreds of hours to volunteer for the force.

Working alongside our neighbourhood and specialist teams they support our regular officers to provide a service to our communities.

“These volunteers work tirelessly to aid our officers in their duties.

“Some of the roles they undertake range from wildlife crime officers to roads policing officers as well as supporting local neighbourhood priorities.

“I would like to thank the specials for all their hard work and commitment to the force and the communities they serve.”
