The Mile Oak Recreation Action Group (MORAG) led a lengthy campaign for the playground to be upgraded, and funding for the project was agreed at the council's budget meeting in February.

Environment councillor Gill Mitchell said: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to work with residents to get this project up and running and deliver something really special for families in the area.”

Tiffany Soanes, chair of MORAG, said: "The local community members of MORAG feel really pleased that we are starting to see improvements to our previously 'forgotten park' which we hope will be well used and loved for years to come.

"We feel that all children are entitled to access to free outdoor play facilities in their local community so the addition of this new equipment will go some way to providing that for the residents of Mile Oak."

Work is expected to take three to four weeks and will be followed by improvements to Victoria Recreation play area.
