Working launch for Aldwick in Bloom campaign

Volunteers launched Aldwick in Bloom 2009 in a fitting way.

The Aldwick in Bloom campaigners for a greener parish joined members of Aldwick Green Conservation Society on their monthly working party on the open space.

About 30 people in all joined the occasion on Aldwick Road as Aldwick gears up to take on the best of Britain's blooms again. They included MP Nick Gibb.

The area is again taking part as an urban community in Britain in Bloom after winning silver in 2007.

Judging will take place in August. This place back among the national elite was earned by Aldwick's silver gilt category win last year in the South and South East in Bloom competition.

Aldwick in Bloom members will be seeking to top that placing among the region's urban communities when those judges visit next month.

Local resident Delia Jones has led Aldwick in Bloom for 15 years.

She said: "It's all about volunteers giving up their time to make their particular village a better place to live. I think it's wonderful."

Among the places on the routes of both sets of judges will be Aldwick Green (formerly The Pound), Aldwick Duck Pond, Rose Green infant and junior schools and Marine Park Gardens, as well as individual gardens.

Both the schools and the gardens have also been entered into separate regional competitions to compare them with other similar locations.
